Mr. Tom Waits…

I have been to a lot of concerts, but there are very few that have really been once in a lifetime opportunities. Last night at the Moran Theater, I had one.

Mr. Tom Waits is on his Glitter and Doom tour, and he did not disappoint. Since Tom has hundreds of recorded songs there were a handful I had never heard before. However, despite the unfamiliarity, the concert was amazing.

Meg said it best. He performs as a caricature of himself. The stage set up. The unbelievable musicians. The character of Tom Waits. It was more like an acid trip version of a vaudville show more than a concert.

So very good.

Here is the setlist.

Moran theatre, Jacksonville, Fl.
July 1, 2008

encore:
House where nobody lives

I only heard one of the four songs I was hoping for, House where nobody lives, but that is the nature of the beast.

The same thing happened at Radiohead two months ago.

Anyways, great time. Meg and I are off to vacation so it will be a bit before I write again.

The River…

So saturday was the long awaited trip to the itchituknee river for some tubing. Nine of us made the trip and despite getting lost a few times and having to deal with a little rain, we had a blast. It was really relaxing. We even got to have some Tijuana Flats with Quinn and Shelly for dinner. Great day. Enjoy some pictures

The beauty of the Wii…

After weeks of searching, we finally found a Wii yesterday in Ponte Vedra. It is glorious. I imagine there will be many Wii parties taking place this summer. If you have never played one, you need to plan on coming over and racing cows or bowling.

Speaking of bowling, The Big Lebowski has come up in conversation a lot lately. I think we are going to plan on having a Lebowski themed party at some point this summer. Just something for the kids, you know.

I am the walrus.

Summer Soltice

In honor of the longest day of the year, rich, meg and I decided to go to as many places downtown as possible before it finally got dark. We went by leaping lesbians pizza (actually called “cosmic blues”) where the pineapple on the islander was perfect. We then took rich to meet some other western PA friends at renevous where we discussed the ubiquitous nature of accoustic guitar players who only know James Taylor, jim croce, and jimmy Buffett songs. A good time was had by all. Come join us on our downtown tour next year.
